Over the last few years I have become more interested in the industrial heritage of North East England, the rapid rise of industry at the end of the 19th Century and following, a swift decline. This industry drastically changed the landscape and now many of those locations have now been reclaimed by nature.

This is a painting of The Auckland Way following the old railway lines. Remnants of the industry can be seen along the way including old railway bridges. It is one of my favourite walks and close to home. This day showed a change the weather. It was bright but the light had changed from the hot summer sun, to a cooler duller light that seemed to spotlight through the trees. The leaves were just starting to fall and a glimpse of Autumn colour hung like gems in the trees. I’ve decided to give the painting the title ‘The Auckland Way, End of Summer’ it is painted on an artist wood panel using oil paint.
